Linda's Legacy
Mike Vogel
Supporting Young Women with Metastatic Breast Cancer
The Linda Casill Vogel Memorial Fund is taking the opportunity to give back to this wonderful organization and provide even more resources for young women like Linda.
This page has been set up as a convenient way for you to make a direct contribution to YSC that is in the name of the LCV Fund and also tax-deductible.
Your donation will be used for the YSC Annual Summit, a three day conference that is the largest in the world for young women affected by breast cancer. Specifically, three initiatives are funded:
* 1) Sponsoring The "Living and Leaving a Legacy: Half Day Retreat for Young Women Living with Metastatic Breast Cancer" summit.youngsurvival.org/mbc-retreat . See https://blog.youngsurvival.org/lets-talk-want-remembered/ for an idea of content as well as the types of resources that YSC makes available.
* 2) The grant also sponsors a concurrent retreat for mets co-survivors (husbands, care-givers, etc). This session was first offered in 2019, thanks to our grant.
* 3) Finally, several travel grants are given to young women with metastatic breast cancer to attend the conference. Over 100 travel grants are awarded annually, but there are hundreds more who were wait-listed and presumably unable to attend due to the cost of traveling to the conference.
Linda benefited greatly from YSC through the years. Initially when Linda was diagnosed at age 28, YSC was a wonderful source of information for her. But more importantly, Linda attended the YSC Annual Summit several times (with me joining her in later years). Of course the Summits were always a great source of information (40 sessions over three days with many focused on Metastatic Breast Cancer issues). But I think the greatest benefit of the Summit may have been the connections made with other people-- a feeling of not being alone in the fight, finding a new and lasting circle of friends and support, and being able to talk so openly about many personal issues. I remember Linda (and I) would always come back from the conference feeling empowered and energized!
Each year, more than 13,000 young women 40 and under are diagnosed with breast cancer. I am making the commitment to help raise money to support these women, so they can face breast cancer feeling empowered.
Thank you, in advance, for your support. I truly appreciate your generosity.
