I've made a commitment to become a Young Survival Coalition (YSC) Champion. YSC supports and empowers young women (40s and under) diagnosed with breast cancer.
Who am I? I am a wife, a mother, and a cancer survivor.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer on 2/13/15 at the age of 42. On 4/10/15 I underwent a mastectomy and soon after began hormone treatment to prevent future recurrence. I understand the fear, uncertainty, and pain that comes from hearing the words "you have cancer". This drives me to support other women who've been diagnosed and help them navigate their options for surgery, treatment, and life beyond cancer.
To honor this commitment I will dedicate my race at the 2016 Ironman Lake Placid triathlon on July 24, 2016 to support the women who can benefit from the amazing resources provided by the YSC.
An Ironman distance triathlon is a physical and mental endurance test consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mi bike ride, and 26.2 mi run completed in 17 hours or less. I promise to work very hard over these next several months to reach that finish line. By joining me in this journey you can help make a difference to the over 13,000 young women diagnosed each year with breast cancer!
The money I raise will go to support YSC which is the premier non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and educating young women affected by breast cancer. I want to help raise money to support women so they can face this disease with courage and optimism.
How will your contribution help?
$25 could fund YSC materials at three healthcare providers’ offices.
$100 could provide a Newly Diagnosed Navigator to six women when they need it most.
$250 could allow us to train four survivors to serve as peer supporters.
$500 could fund a Young Empowered Survivor (YES) educational program.
$1,200 could pay for two women to travel to our annual conference for young women affected by breast cancer.
Any amount helps! Seriously, even $1 is a start to providing the resources that will help a woman who is facing a breast cancer diagnosis. She is scared, uncertain, and needs support to face the battle ahead.
Together we can fight breast cancer and give young women all the options to not only survive, but THRIVE!!
Thank you for your support!
