I've made an exciting commitment to become a YSC Champion with my campaign: It's All About the Number 18!. The money I raise will go to support Young Survival Coalition (YSC), the premier non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and educating young adults affected by breast cancer.
In Aug. '01, I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 38. I thought it was an older woman's disease since that's who I heard about. Clearly, I had a lot to learn. Although the unknown terrified me, I wanted to create memories with my family especially my children and friends so I found the courage to take action. I underwent two surgeries, radiation and hormone therapies. Frankly speaking, my experiences weren't for the faint of heart!
I never expected to join the more than 13,000 young women under 40 who are diagnosed with breast cancer annually. Sadly, I didn't start meeting any young adults diagnosed with breast cancer till many years later. Thus, it was initially a lonely journey for me not having the support of young survivors/thrivers who understood. I know firsthand why YSC's mission is vital for this population.
Some say 18 means good luck or 18 has spiritual meaning or it means you're no longer a minor! However, for me 18 represents my survivorship! This yr is my 18th cancerversary! #Thankful #Rebirth #FaithJourney #StillIRise The last 18 yrs. has been a rollercoaster ride due to the challenges of the late effects/collateral damage from cancer treatment. #MyReality Yes, there has been some positive outcomes too.
In recognition of my 18th cancerversary & birthday on Sept. 17th, I'm asking you to make a donation to YSC to ensure breast cancer survivors/thrivers can face breast cancer feeling empowered and not alone! Will you consider making a contribution to YSC in my honor? All donations will be appreciated and make the difference in the life of a young adult who hears the words "You have breast cancer!"
Your donation can help:
$25 could fund YSC materials at three healthcare providers’ offices.
$100 could provide a Newly Diagnosed Navigator to six women when they need it most.
$250 could allow us to train four survivors to serve as peer supporters.
$500 could fund a Young Empowered Survivor (YES) educational program.
$1,200 could pay for two women to travel to our annual conference for young women affected by breast cancer.
Thank you, in advance, for visiting my page, your consideration and generosity!
